Developing Disinfecting Protocols
Step 1: Clarify Roles and Responsibilities
Involving your entire team in your cleaning and disinfecting protocol program is crucial for ensuring everyone is actively involved and accountable. Develop a Cleaning Schedule: Create a detailed schedule for cleaning and disinfecting frequency for each area and assign specific responsibilities to each team member.
Step 2: Identify Areas Of Heavy Traffic / Risk
Different areas in your facility pose varying levels of biosecurity risk. Implement a color-coded system to designate these areas: Level 1: Low-risk areas like administrative offices and non-clinical public spaces. Level 2: Moderate-risk areas including exam rooms and common areas with frequent animal traffic. Level 3: High-risk areas such as treatment rooms, surgical suites, and isolation areas. Tips: Note kennels or areas that require more stringent cleaning. While it is important to recognize high-traffic areas, it is easy to generate cleaning protocols considering Biocide Plus does not require excessive amounts of dilution ratios depending on the level.
Step 3: Account for the Mode of Transmission for Possible Pathogens
When dealing with potential outbreaks, it's crucial to recognize that pathogens can spread beyond the obvious or high-traffic areas. Every surface in your facility could potentially be a vector for contamination, whether it's frequently touched or not. Thorough Cleaning Approach: Treat every surface, even those that might seem less likely to be contaminated, as if they are harboring pathogens. This includes walls, ceilings, ventilation grates, and lesser-used equipment. In an outbreak scenario, it's better to overestimate the spread than to leave any surface untreated. Pathogen Spread: Pathogens can be spread by direct contact with an infected animal or person, or indirectly through contaminated surfaces. For example, an asymptomatic carrier could easily contaminate door handles, countertops, or even equipment that is not regularly disinfected. Disinfection Strategy: Use Biocide Plus™ on all possible surfaces, including those that might be overlooked in a routine cleaning schedule. This comprehensive approach ensures that even the most unlikely surfaces are disinfected, reducing the risk of further contamination and spread.
Step 4: Always Disinfect for both viricidal and bacteria based threats.
One of the key advantages of using Biocide Plus™ is its consistent and straightforward dilution ratio, which simplifies the disinfection process, especially during an outbreak. Simple and Consistent Dilution: Biocide Plus™ requires just 1 ounce per gallon of water to effectively disinfect against a wide range of bacterial pathogens. This single dilution rate applies across most bacterial claims, which means you don’t have to adjust or remember different dilution ratios for different surfaces or contamination levels. Compared to Rescue™: In contrast, Rescue™ requires a more concentrated dilution of 1:16 for bacterial claims, which can be more cumbersome to manage, especially in high-pressure situations where quick action is needed. With Rescue™, you might also need to switch between different dilutions depending on the pathogen and the area being treated. Consistency Across Surfaces: With Biocide Plus™, you can confidently disinfect all surfaces in your facility—whether it’s a high-touch area like door handles or a less considered surface like walls—using the same, easy-to-prepare solution. This reduces the risk of errors in preparation and ensures that every part of your facility receives the same level of protection. The Bottom Line: When time and accuracy are critical, especially during an outbreak, the simplicity of Biocide Plus™ allows your team to act quickly and effectively without the complexity of managing multiple dilution rates. This makes it easier to ensure that your entire facility is thoroughly disinfected, reducing the chances of any surface being overlooked or improperly treated.
Step 5: Train Your Entire Staff
Ensure that all staff members are fully trained on the Biocide Plus™ protocols: Training Resources: Use product labels, SDS sheets, etc. Reach out to your sales representative or email support@carelabs.com for additional help. Dilution and Contact Times: Emphasize the importance of proper dilution and required contact times to ensure effectiveness. Consider microfiber technology: Microfiber mop systems can help eliminate cross-contamination vs. traditional mop systems. Remember: Consistency is key. Define your daily needs and ensure all staff members understand the protocol.
Step 6: Make Disinfectants Easy To Use
To ensure proper protocol adherence: Set Up Cleaning Stations: Position cleaning and disinfecting stations throughout your facility to reduce cross-contamination risks. Stock Stations: Ensure each station is fully stocked with Biocide Plus™ products, tools, etc. Eliminate manual dilution: Install dispensing stations at mop-sink closet areas throughout your facility to ensure proper dilution for spray bottles and mop solutions.
Step 6: Set Up Routine Quality-Control Measures
To maintain and improve your cleaning program: Labeling: Mark expiration dates on Ready-to-Use products and clearly label diluted concentrates. Cleaning Logs: Maintain logs where staff can record cleaning activities, dates, and times. Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and update your cleaning and disinfection protocols to keep them effective and compliant with the latest standards.
